About the Item

This is a Japanese black wooden storage box. It is probably from around the Edo period. It is one of the folk utensils mainly used in Japan in the early modern times, and it is a rectangular wooden box used to store clothes and bedding. It's made of cedar, so it's not that heavy. The black color was placed near the hearth, and it was used for a long time and was discolored black by soot. The overall impression is matte black, but the friction creates the beauty of the wabisabi. It can be used as it is for blanket chests, etc., but it is also recommended to use the lid and box separately. The lid can be decorated on the wall as an art, and the curved top adds a three-dimensional feeling to the space. The friction expression of the part of the box with the lid removed is beautiful, so I think it would be good to use it to decorate the space without a lid. There is little extra decoration, and because of the simple design, the impression of the space will change just by decorating. Weight: 18.5kg
