About the Item

Mid 19th century hand painted Swedish oak coffer circa 1852. Beautiful dome top coffer made from solid oak.  Hand painted using traditional methods in a green, brown and yellow scheme. Profusely hand painted front with tassels and borders, initialed on the front jms and dated 1852 26th of february.  Brown painted strap work, lid edge and feet.  Lid opens with working lock and key to reveal a later painted interior, which is missing it's usual candle box. Expected surface marks, fading to woodwork. Minor losses to decorative elements around the feet.  Structurally strong and ready for everyday use.
