About the Item

Very Fine Late 18th-Century George III Mahogany Two-Door Library Bookcase A superb quality, elegant late 18th-century George III period solid mahogany two-door library bookcase. The upper section has a moulded cornice above a pair of original glazed doors enclosing four fully adjustable shelves. The lower section is fitted with beautifully figured mahogany panelled cupboard doors, enclosing a further two adjustable shelves, and the whole stands on an integral moulded plinth base. England, circa 1780. Of excellent quality with a warm, rich patina, this bookcase retains its original keys and working locks and is in lovely, largely untouched condition. The surface has developed a wonderful depth of colour over time, enhancing the warmth and figure of the mahogany, a hallmark of fine pieces from this era. Sturdy, strong and ready to use, it perfectly embodies the English country house look. This tall library bookcase is not only a testament to exceptional Georgian craftsmanship but also a striking centrepiece for any home that values history and quality.
