18th Century Chinoiserie Lacquered Bureau Bookcase Item Code: S26-61 A striking 18th century chinoiserie bureau bookcase, decorated throughout in later red lacquer with hand-painted gilt scenes of pagodas, figures, landscapes, and exotic flora. The architectural cornice with gilt shell cresting and carved finials frames an arched mirrored door that opens to reveal a fitted interior. Below, the fall-front desk opens to a beautifully detailed interior of drawers and pigeonholes, leading to three full-length drawers with brass handles and escutcheons. Raised on shaped bracket feet, this piece exemplifies the finest in George II period craftsmanship and oriental influence.
