About the Item
19th century French Neoclassical Open Bookcase is a magnificent work of the cabinetmaker's art, separated into an upper and lower tier that together create both display and storage in style! The crown features an intriguing design accented with pyramidal blocks, appearing over two corner pilasters carved with stylized quatrefoil overlay that embrace the upper open-shelved section. The upper tier sets upon a lower cabinet that is in effect a small buffet, with a pair of fluted drawers fitted with cast brass pulls presiding over two beautifully carved cabinet door panels flanked by the same stylized quatrefoil overlay on the corners. An amazingly detailed key guard is centered on the lower cabinet doors. The doors open to reveal a nicely sized storage area. An apron of fluting over bold base molding completes the look.
