This is a beautiful antique early Victorian flame mahogany eight-door breakfront bookcase, cupboard, wardrobe or storage cabinet masterfully crafted in high quality flame mahogany wood, circa 1860. This beautiful piece features four arched top glazed doors in the upper section. This section has seven shelves with tooled trims, and they can all be adjusted according to the height of your books, dishes, or anything you wish to display. The lower section has four arch paneled doors all of which open to reveal spacious cupboards with additional shelves. There is no mistaking its superb quality and very appealing design which is certain to make it a talking point in your home and stand proud in whichever room you choose to display it. Complete with original working locks and keys (only 3 keys pictured, there are 5 total). Top center 40" Wide x 11" Deep x 43 3/8" High Top right and left sides: 23" Wide x 7 7/8" Deep x 37 1/4" High Bottom right and left: 22" Wide x 9 7/8" Deep x 31 3/4" High Bottom center: 43" Wide x 10 1/2" Deep x 33 1/2" High (2 adjustable shelves) Flame mahogany: Best suited where strength is demanded for daily use, has a beautiful figure and polishes so well that it is an ornament to any room in which it may be placed. Mahogany is probably one of the largest ‘families’ of hardwood, having many different varieties within its own species. Mahogany has been used for centuries in ship building, house building, furniture making, etc.. and is the core structure of just about every 19th century vanity box, dressing case or jewelry box. It became more of a Victorian trend to dress mahogany with decorative veneers, such as rosewood, kingwood, burr walnut and Coromandel, so that the actual mahogany was almost hidden from view. Mahogany itself is a rich reddish brown wood that can range from being plain in appearance to something that is so vibrant, figured and almost three dimensional in effect. Cuban mahogany was so sought after, that by the late 1850s, this particular variety became all but extinct.
