About the Item

This monumental Victorian corner cabinet is crafted in richly toned mahogany with deeply molded, convex-paneled pilasters and geometric glazed upper doors. The form reflects Renaissance Revival influences common in mid-19th century English library furniture, with bowed side panels, and stepped molding profiles. The interior includes full-height shelving behind the original glass, with the upper door rails bearing period stenciling-most notably LENORE-indicating an organized catalog or section designation within a larger library installation. "Lenore" is likely a reference to Edgar Allan Poe's poem (1843) bearing the same name, and would have indicated that this cabinet resided in a section dedicated to Gothic literature and poetry. The lower doors follow the same sculptural paneled vocabulary, forming a cohesive façade when the cabinet is closed. The rear of the piece shows robust plank construction and period fastening, suggesting this was originally intended as a movable but substantial furnishing, possibly for an institutional or private library where collections were labeled and arranged by literary category. Numbered stenciling (such as "588") on the door rails further supports this origin, reflecting workshop or inventory markings from its 19th-century setting. 34" x 41" x 63.25"H. Top portion includes two partitions with glass doors and adjustable shelves. The interior space of the larger side measures 23.5"W x 9.5"D x 29"H. The smaller side measures 17"W x 9.5"D x 29"H. The base of the bar includes two partitions with wooden doors and height adjustable shelves. The larger space is matching to the top but 24"H. The smaller portion matches the top with 24"H. This bar is in great condition with minor scratches present around where the doors open. AF - 18348 - 120525
