About the Item

Architect’s Drawing Cabinet / Plan Chest Danish design, c. 1920 Exceptionally well-crafted drawing cabinet from around 1920, made as a unique piece and originally commissioned for a Danish architect for personal use. The cabinet is crafted in mahogany with fine, light maple inlays, creating an elegant and harmonious appearance. Constructed in two sections: The upper section features an open shelving system with adjustable shelves and a rounded wooden rod at the top, intended for hanging paper rolls used in drafting. Beneath the shelves are three small drawers for storing drawing instruments. The lower section is fitted with a pair of doors, behind which are three pull-out trays, ideal for storing large drawings and plans. The cabinet stands on slender, tapered legs and displays well-balanced proportions and a distinct architectural character. Only one example is known, made specifically for the architect himself, making this piece exceptionally rare.
