About the Item

A rare and exceptional bespoke studio crafted mid-century Organic Modern two-piece bookcase, display cabinet, or bar cabinet By Don Shoemaker for Señal S.A. Mexico, Circa 1970s Sculpted Cocobolo rosewood, with glass front doors. Measures: 60"W x 22"D x 81.25"H. Good vintage condition. Don Shoemaker (1919-1990) was a highly influential American furniture designer of the 20th Century. His contemporaries include George Nakashima and Phillip Lloyd Powell, among others. His designs for Señal S.A., founded by Shoemaker in Mexico in 1960, were modern interpretations of traditional Mexican furnishings. Many of his iconic designs were inspired by traditional Mexican woodwork. The pieces made from Cocobolo, a Mexican rosewood, and other precious woods were highly sought after. The furniture was exported to showrooms in Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston, and large Mexican cities. His designs were liked very much by wealthy Mexican families, who had complete sets decorating their homes. Case pieces by Shoemaker are extremely rare. This cabinet is unique to the current market.
