About the Item

Solid oak bookcase with hand painted, medieval style decorations in the windows. If you are looking for unique pieces to decorate an interior with a Gothic theme then this early 20th century bookcase could be perfect. It is as strong and stable as the day it was made and its rare size and shape make this handcrafted, four-door bookcase an absolute joy to own, use and to look at. The combination of the church like, stained glass windows and the hand carved Gothic elements is a match made in heaven. It is very difficult to see in our images, but most glass panels in the windows have a touch of color in them. The technique that was applied to create the beautiful images in the two center panels, in Dutch, is called 'gebrandschilderd'. We cannot find a correct translation for it, but the images were painted onto the glass after which they were burned into the glass in the kiln at 900 degrees Celsius. Because they are burned into the glass, these marvellous images and their beautiful colors will last for centuries. Have you also noticed the striking patina of and the beautiful grain in this tiger oak bookcase? All doors open and shut perfectly. The ones on the left have metal slides to shut them tight and the two doors on the right come with perfect working locks and the original, Gothic style key. The insides of this bookcase, including all bookshelves are in excellent condition too. All bookshelves are adjustable in height so that you can choose the lay-out that works best for you. Behind the closed doors of the bottom part of this tall cabinet also is a height adjustable shelf. If you like this one of a kind, Gothic bookcase as much as we do then you will love our price.
