Important Italian Tuscany Renaissance Bookcase, by Michele Bonciani - Cascina - Tuscany, widely hand-carved with renaissance motifs , in ebonized walnut polished to wax. Original glass of the period; iron railings twisted and worked in rhombus fixed with manual staples, circa 1930s.

History and Curiosity on this type of Furniture:
This type of furniture was born during the 16th century in Tuscany and then expanded more in the rest of Italy. As the years went by, these pieces of furniture were enriched with Mannerist style carvings and the supports became a single body with leonine or corner ends. In the early 20th century they were used to furnish offices of important lawyers and notaries.
