About the Item

A rare treasure from the storied Parisian shop-fitter Siegel, this eight-tier étagère distills mid-century French utility into a sculptural vertical showpiece. A telescopic brass spine anchors eight solid fruitwood shelves, each secured with cast-iron collars that allow them to swivel, slide, or be removed entirely. Originally designed for boutiques and grands magasins, the structure offers merchandiser-grade adaptability—ideal for books, ceramics, barware, or objets. Its mixed-metal construction reads collected, not coordinated: ebonized steel stretchers, softly patinated brass uprights, and miniature brass ball feet form a layered, industrial aesthetic. The slender 14-inch depth keeps its footprint-light, while the 6'+ height draws the eye upward. Capped with neoclassical acorn finials and stamped SIEGEL PARIS, this piece carries both provenance and presence—a collector’s item with gallery-worthy scale and functionality. Condition: Great vintage condition. Each shelf is adjustable via the original cast-metal butterfly clamps and is individually marked on the underside with the Siegel Paris stamp. The frame shows a light patina and surface wear consistent with age, including oxidation to the brass and minor wear to the iron base. One shelf displays a natural wood split, as photographed, which does not affect the structure or stability of the piece.
