French Ebonized Bookcase with Sevres Plaques, Circa 1820
An elegant early 19th-century French ebonized bookcase, circa 1820. The bookcase features an exceptional combination of craftsmanship, including fine brass inlay and ormolu mounts. The upper section includes glazed doors for display, while the lower cupboard offers practical storage space.
Four beautifully painted Sevres porcelain plaques in a bleu celeste palette are set into the piece, adding refined charm and exemplifying the high quality of French porcelain of the period.
The bookcase is in good condition for its age, with some minor wear to the finish that reflects its history. The Sevres plaques remain in excellent condition, adding significant value to this exceptional piece.

We have had our share of antique, or supposed to be Antique French mahogany Louis XVI style bookcases, however most tend to be constructed during the 1950’s. This Antique French Ebonized Bookcase is the real deal and is a genuine antique, which our inhouse Old Plank restoration department beautifully restored, with an old school ebonized finish. The French Louis XVI bookcase was completely disassembled (makes for easy ingress and egress), hand-stripped to the bare mahogany wood, restored as necessary and refinished in this deep black Napoleon III style ebonized and brass exterior.
