About the Item
Elegant and impressive French bookcase dating from the early Empire period, early 19th century. The cabinet has a disassembled and tripartite structure, with three doors marked by solid wood turned columns, embellished with fine chiseled gilt brass decorative elements. Made of solid wood furred in mahogany feather, the bookcase is distinguished by the rich wood grain and the formal balance typical of the Empire taste: the projecting upper frame, the slightly sloping central pediment, and the monumental proportions make it a prestigious and decorative piece of furniture. The doors, fitted with original glass panes, reveal a capacious interior, suitable for use both as a bookcase and a display case.
The state of preservation is very good: the varnish shows a slight natural yellowing, easily refreshed by light polishing with shellac and oil.
The columns suffered a localized xylophagus attack, now fully treated and stabilized. Healthy, stable and ready-to-use structure.
