A fine and elegant George I period walnut bureau bookcase, dating to the early 18th century and displaying beautifully figured walnut veneers throughout. This tall and well-proportioned piece combines refined architectural presence with practical storage, making it a striking focal point for any traditional interior.
The upper section is fitted with a glazed door enclosing adjustable shelving, ideal for books or display, and framed by a moulded cornice of pleasing classical form. Below, the sloping fall opens to reveal a well-fitted interior with a central cupboard, small drawers, and pigeonholes, all retaining their original charm and functionality. The lower section is fitted with four graduated long drawers, each with attractive period brass handles and escutcheons, and raised on sturdy bracket feet.
