About the Item

Solid and veneered wood, stained and varnished; ebonized plinth base. Manufacturer’s label “Anonima Castelli Bologna” to the upper rear edge. A refined example of early production by Anonima Castelli, this open bookcase embodies the restrained elegance and functional clarity that characterized Italian furniture design between the 1930s and the immediate post-war years. The piece features a rectilinear structure softened by subtly rounded vertical edges, a detail that enhances its architectural presence while highlighting the cabinetmaker’s precision. The bookcase is arranged with two open shelves, providing practical storage within a compact footprint. Crafted in warm-toned wood veneer, the surfaces reveal a fine grain pattern and a rich patina consistent with age and careful use. The shelves are supported by solid side panels with integrated moulded profiles, while the cabinet rests on a stepped, ebonized plinth base, offering a visual contrast and elevating the form. A discreet manufacturer’s badge from Anonima Castelli—one of Italy’s most influential furniture producers—affirms the authenticity and historical interest of the piece. Condition: Wear consistent with age and use, including scattered surface scratches, minor abrasions, and small veneer losses along edges. The finish with areas of light discoloration and patina. Structurally sound and stable.
