About the Item

Extremely rare Georgian Campaign Bookcase, folds into its own original steel bound travelling case. Exceptional colour and condition. The shelves inside are fully adjustable. When closed the case has working locks, to seal the case shut. There are wooden skids on the side of the case, with holes in the middle. These were used to drag the cases along the deck of a boat, or tie to a horse. Officers in the English military in the 1700s and 1800s commissioned leading cabinet makers in England to make travelling furniture (campaign), for their use throughout the British Empire. I have never owned a campaign bookcase before, chests are seating are far more common. Possibly a unique item, that is as good today, as when it was Dimensions are approximate
