We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning original circa 1900 Globe Wernicke Mahogany with lead-lined glass stacking Legal Library bookcase A very good looking well made and functional piece of furniture, these bookcases are highly collectable, the rarest have the lead-lined glass and usually, one panel or other is broken, this one is in faultless antique condition throughout, it will have normal patina marks as you would expect, it functions perfectly We have cleaned waxed and polished it from top to bottom, the glass has all been carefully cleaned Dimensions: Height 151.5cm Width 86.5cm Depth 30.5cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point The Globe-Wernicke Company was formed as a result of the Cincinnati based Globe Files Company (est. in 1882) purchasing the Minneapolis based Wernicke Company, founded in 1893 by Otto Wernicke, in 1899. The company is best known for their high-end bookcases, Desks, and other office furniture. Globe Wernicke established factories in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, and Germany. The company patented the 'elastic bookcases' also known as a modular bookcase. These were a high quality stacking bookshelves, with a standard width of 34 inches, in oak, walnut and mahogany, capable of being adapted to fit together to form a bookcase which could either be all of the same measurements or which could be re-arranged by the insertion of units of different depths and heights. These glass-fronted shelves are today collectible antiques highly desired by collectors. Condition: Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
