About the Item
A stunning French antique bookcase in the Regence style by Maison Beurdeley, Paris, veneered in intricate parquetry and lavishly adorned with gilt-bronze mounts. The elegant ‘S’-shaped pediment is centered by a winged cartouche above two glazed doors with panelled lower sections. Each door features gilt-bronze medallions — one representing agriculture, the other astronomy — symbolizing the earthly and celestial spheres.
The interior is lined in pale green silk and fitted with three shelves, while the cabinet rests on a shaped apron base. Mounts are incised ‘BY’, marking Beurdeley’s celebrated workshop.
A fine example of 19th-century French craftsmanship, this bookcase combines architectural presence with exceptional decorative detail.
