About the Item

A great example of Regency period charm and decorative wit, this secretaire bookcase is crafted entirely from wood detailed to resemble faux bamboo. A distinctive feature of the Regency period, often used to introduce an exotic, Chinoiserie influence and lightness into classical English interiors. The upper part features a glazed bookcase section, designed to protect books or display collectibles, while below, the central fall-front drawer opens to reveal a fitted secretaire interior complete with small drawers and cubby holes, creating a highly functional desk space. With its mellow patina and decorative motifs, this bookcase perfectly embodies the spirited design innovations of the early 19th century.
