About the Item

Early 19th Century French Empire Period Walnut Grand Buffet was meticulously hand-crafted by skilled artisans who drew inspiration from the royal families of their eras. In this case, the piece was styled after the designs developed by Napoleon and Josephine, and rendered entirely from select, finely figured French walnut which today is prohibitively expensive and almost unattainable. The simplicity of the architecture results in its own elegance, with plank and panel top, three solid walnut columns across the front, and the aforementioned figured walnut used for the cabinet door panels. Interestingly, the design consists of two very wide drawers, indicating the original owners desired plenty of space for tablecloths and larger linens. Visual adornment includes a brace of lions' heads ring pulls for each drawer, finely cast key guards, and brass capitals and base rings on the columns. Doors open wide to reveal a cavernous interior, ideal for the large families of the affluent during the period. A stunning ode to a bygone era!
