About the Item
A stunning French 19th century Louis XVI st. mahogany, ormolu, and Rosso Levanto marble buffet and matching vitrine cabinets, likely by Mercier Freres. The buffet and vitrines are raised on handsome bun feet with richly chased acanthus leaf wrap around ormolu bands. Above and at the straight frieze, are fine protruding ormolu rosettes framed within an elegant brass fillet. Each of the doors is decorated with splendid lattice parquetry repeated on the sides with the buffet displaying an array of elegant C scrolled foliate movements, rosette mounts, and opulent ormolu keyhole escutcheons. Each drawer is adorned with ormolu pulls in a foliate pattern. The vitrines display glass doors above with glass shelving and mirrored back panels. At the frieze of the buffet are richly chased ormolu corner mounts centered by a fine ormolu reserve below the original thick marble top and matching backsplash. The scalloped backsplash is decorated with sensational scrolled acanthus leaf mounts at each side and a grand and richly chased central ormolu mount of a lion’s head amidst acanthus leaves.
