About the Item

A superb and high quality French mid 19th century Louis XVI st. mahogany buffet. The buffet is raised on a demi lune base with four tapered reeded columns with ormolu chandelles supporting the frieze. Two central mahogany doors with the original handblown glass inserts are bordered with ormolu beaded borders and rosettes at each corner. Each door has an ormolu keyhole escutcheon and a central lock that extends from top to bottom to retain the shape of each door. The impressive apron has two central drawers with ormolu pulls and beaded borders, a central keyhole escutcheon flanked by ormolu rosette blocks. At each side are additional round drawers that are likewise decorated. At the top lies the thick molded edge Gris St. Anne marble below the curved mahogany backsplash with ormolu beaded border. All original gilt and rich warm patina throughout.
