About the Item
A most elegant and very high quality French early 19th century Louis XVI st. Tulipwood, ormolu, Japanese black lacquer, and white Carrara marble buffet. The buffet is raised by fine square tapered legs with square mottled ormolu sabots and lovely circular mounts. The straight frieze is decorated with a beautiful fluted ormolu band below the single door with a wonderfully executed Japanese black lacquered panel of a lion in the Jungle framed within a mottled wrap around ormolu band with a fine hammered design set on a quarter veneered background with a foliate tied ribbon keyhole escutcheon. Striking columns lead upwards flanking the door and decorated with richly chased blooming flower mounts with two tiers at each side with pierced ormolu galleries and stunning quarter veneered backgrounds showcasing the beautiful wood grain. The apron displays a single drawer with a striking keyhole escutcheon with a unique Japanese black lacquered reserve flanked by richly chased cornucopias in a fine satin and burnished finish with fitted fluted ormolu berried laurel designs also repeated at each side. Above is the original white Carrara marble top. All original gilt throughout.
