A lavishly carved wedding piece, this oak buffet a deux-corps from Normandy, is embellished with foliage and flowers in carved relief, as well as offering beautifully-articulated applied carvings in high relief as seen in the central flower-filled basket and flanking floral sprays, which are symbolic of a fruitful union. It features the original hand-blown glass, as well as the original pulls, key plates, locks, one key, shelves, and carved escargot feet. A dowry piece of this quality would have been commissioned for a bride of some financial
social standing. France, circa 1800 or earlier (late 18th century).

This four door case antique is split into two bodies: a deeper lower body and a more narrow but tall upper body. The upper cabinet is crowned with a molded cornice above imaginative carvings in the frieze depicting swags and hanging tassels, more in the Louis XVI taste. The upper doors are delightfully paneled and conceal a spacious interior with two removable shelves, approximately 13" deep.
