A Qing Dynasty period elmwood low kang cabinet from the 19th century with everted flanges, two petite doors, scrolls and floral motifs. This exquisite antique Qing Dynasty period elmwood low kang cabinet from the 19th century effortlessly combines elegance with historical significance. The cabinet features a rectangular planked top adorned with two gracefully everted flanges on the sides, adding a subtle yet striking visual balance to the piece. Below the top, the molded cornice is delicately accented with dovetailed motifs of a lighter hue on the sides, creating a charming contrast against the rich elmwood patina. The façade is defined by two petite doors, each fitted with a circular bronze medallion, which open to reveal two narrow shelves within, offering convenient storage. The cabinet’s skirt and spandrels are beautifully adorned with intricate scrolls and floral motifs, drawing the eye and adding a layer of decorative sophistication to the piece. The term "kang" refers to a traditional platform commonly found in Northern China, designed to accommodate people atop it, often made of hollow bricks to allow for heating from beneath.
