About the Item

An exceptional 18th-century Dutch display cabinet, richly carved and beautifully proportioned, featuring a dramatic bombe base and finely glazed serpentine doors. Crafted from solid walnut with a deep, lustrous patina, this piece showcases the elegance and grandeur of the Dutch Baroque period with Rococo influence. The upper section is fitted with original divided glass doors and shaped interior shelving, ideal for displaying porcelain, glassware, or books. Below, the bombe-form base houses three large drawers and a central drop-front writing compartment revealing a fitted interior with small drawers and pigeonholes—functioning as a hidden secrétaire. A boldly carved crest crowns the piece, while intricate Rococo brass hardware, original escutcheons, and hand-cut dovetails throughout speak to the fine craftsmanship of the period. The cabinet rests on elaborately carved paw feet. A set of initials “RFK” is branded into the interior frame, potentially denoting an early maker or collector’s mark.
