1930 s Highly Original German Tambour Fronted Atelier Cabinet

About the Item

1930’s Highly Original German Tambour Fronted Atelier Cabinet. A handsome and imposing atelier cabinet beautifully made in two pieces with pitch pine used throughout. The cabinet was made by Shannon – Registrator – System AUG. ZEISS Co, Berlin. The company was a market leader at the end of the 19th Century with a comprehensive filing cabinet system, the company had distribution throughout Europe. The bottom section has two panelled sliding doors and a fixed central shelf. The top has thirty fixed pigeon hole trays which are secure behind the original pull down tambour front. The cabinet is beautifully made with reeded detail on the uprights and a grand pediment that still retains the makers label. The brass ware is original throughout although sadly the keys have been lost at some stage. Our workshop has gently cleaned and serviced the cabinet but left it original. The cabinet is finished in a superb faux oak finish as was often done at the time. Oak wood would have been more expensive to manufacture so often to meet cost targets pitch pine was used as a base material and then a specialist finish was painted (and applied with a rubber graining tool) on top by hand. The faux finish was also more luxurious and considered better. The doors and tambour run smoothly. The cabinet came from a cigar factory in Dresden. Top Pigeon Holes: L33 x W32 x H10, Bottom Shelves: L34 x W140 x H32, all in cm. Workshop Report: Our workshop team inspect every product and carry out any needed repairs to ensure that everything leaves us serviced and maintained ready for many more years of life. All of our vintage products show the rich beauty and history of their life with the knocks and bumps of many years of use and we try to minimise restoration to keep every piece as original as possible.
