About the Item

This rare Panoplie cabinet, created circa 1955 by Atelier Fornasetti, exemplifies Piero Fornasetti’s masterful blend of surrealism, craftsmanship, and refined wit. Constructed from lacquered and transfer-printed wood with brass fittings, the cabinet features an intricate trompe-l'œil design of classical garlands, instruments, and cornucopias, rendered with meticulous precision. Bearing the original manufacturer’s label to the interior, it reflects Piero Fornasetti’s fascination with transforming historical and decorative motifs into modern poetic compositions. The cabinet measures: 70 × 35 × 63 cm (27.5 × 13.8 × 24.8 in). The piece captures the timeless allure of mid-century Italian design. The piece is documented in Fornasetti: The Complete Universe (Rizzoli, 2010, p. 352, fig. 23), this cabinet stands as a rare and collectible example of the artist’s imaginative vision.
