About the Item
This is an exceptional folk art bridal cabinet from Southeast Germany (Fichtelgebirge). What makes this piece special is the simple painting, which is done in a perfect color. The main color is ochre yellow, but there are beautiful red, brown, and green tones interspersed, giving the whole a very warm appearance. This example dates from around 1850 and is still in good condition considering its age. The paint is somewhat weathered and worn, but the cabinet is still in good condition and suitable for daily use. Only new legs were installed, but otherwise the piece of furniture is completely original from that period. The interior consists of a rod and a shelf. More shelves can easily be added if desired. In the past, it was customary to give bridal furniture like this to the couple at a wedding. These pieces were later placed in a stateroom on the farm, which was only rarely used for important guests or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history.
