About the Item
19th-Century Portuguese Cabinet on Stand – Exquisite National Style
A remarkable 19th-century Portuguese cabinet on stand, crafted in the National Portuguese style from jacaranda and ebonized woods. This sophisticated piece is composed of two sections: the upper cabinet and the base, forming an elegant and imposing silhouette.
The façade showcases 16 intricately ornamented drawers, each adorned with raised geometric motifs and delicate gilt metal keyplates, exuding a sense of refined craftsmanship. The imposing cornice features carved moldings, adding depth and grandeur. The sides are equally impressive, framed by large raised panels with finely cast metal handles.
The lower stand is a masterpiece on its own, boasting elaborately twisted barley sugar legs connected by stretchers, ensuring stability while enhancing the sculptural quality of the piece. The suspended apron, adorned with carved friezes and delicate hanging finials, adds an exquisite decorative element.
This cabinet not only serves as a functional storage unit but also as a testament to Portugal’s rich woodworking tradition. Perfect for collectors, interior designers, or those seeking a striking antique statement piece.
