About the Item
A light-brown, vintage Art Deco Czech sideboard, cabinet made of hand crafted Mahogany and Pinewood, in the style of Jindrich Halabala in good condition. The cupboard is composed with two doors and round polished door handles, pulls. The interior of the tall commode consists adjustable shelving and small compartments with the original chrome hardware, key standing on a scrolled wooden base with rounded corners, very detailed diamond shaped inlays, black lacquered sides and top. Minor fading, scratches due to age. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1935, Czech Republic.
Jindrich Halabala was born in 1903, in Korycany, Czech Republic and passed away in 1978. He was a Czech industrial designer, writer and educator. Halabala trained to become a cabinetmaker in his father workshop, in 1920, he finished his practical studies at the United Woodcrafts Manufacturers in Brno, Czech Republic. Halabala encourage a new mass-market approach to home design and furnishing in the Czechoslovakia. He played a major part in the reshaping of the Czech furniture industry.
