About the Item

Pair of Artona cabinets, designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa for Maxalto, the high-end artisanal division of B&B Italia. The cabinets are meticulously detailed and have a warm material presence. The two units are hinged together and may be opened and closed. The substantial cabinets are clad in beautifully figured rosewood, especially striking when the piece is closed and reads as a single architectural form. Signature dark linear inlays and beveled edges run the length of the edges, a detail that echoes the graphic ornament of the Africa chairs. Opening the cabinet reveals a highly organized and luxurious interior. One cabinet houses a full vertical stack of slim drawers, each front wrapped in black leather with lacquered pulls. The adjoining cabinet offers larger compartments behind leather wrapped doors, with adjustable shelving within. Both units sit on discreet casters for movement, consistent with Maxalto’s early focus on high-quality construction paired with functionality. A substantial and architectural storage solution with a refined Italian modern sensibility.
