About the Item

Antique bridal cabinet dating from around 1750-1780, from the Swabian Alb, southern Germany. Its heavily weathered character and original paintings give it a stunning appearance. Both the design of the cabinet and the paintings are simple and primitive, yet authentic and a typical example of folk art from the region. For example, the top panel depicts a "Dreispross," a floral decoration with religious significance, representing the Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The cabinet has been completely inspected and professionally restored, with an eye for originality and character. The construction is solid, the paintings are worn but preserved, and the patina has been retained. The interior is still original, with one shelf and coat hooks. The cabinet can be locked with the original, working lock. Old, sporadic woodworm traces have been checked and treated. Bridal cabinets like this are rarely found. The age, patina, and painted finish of this cabinet make it an exclusive piece of furniture. 185cm high, 116cm wide, 48cm deep.
