About the Item
Crafted in Denmark by cabinetmaker Rud Egon Leo Arne Gunnar Buus Nielsen, this mid-century oak display cabinet features detailed hand-carving, arched glass doors with original brass escutcheons, and two carved drawers above an open base shelf. The standout detail is a hidden drawer, that is revealed on the the drawers are opened and a small peg on the interior of the cabinet is lifted. On the underside of the drawer, the maker left an inscription in Danish noting his name, birthplace, and materials used—including a lock dated to 1841.
It reads:
“This piece of furniture was made by cabinetmaker Rud Egon Leo Arne Gunnar Buus Nielsen, born 8-2-1910 in Randers. Made using various materials, old and new. The lock in the door is from 1846. Rud.”
Constructed from solid oak with traditional joinery, this piece is both functional and historically significant.
