Antique French Folk Art Painted Wedding Armoire Cabinet

About the Item

A French double door oak cabinet from the early 20th century, finished in a later folk art painted finish. Born in France, circa 1920, the charming antique features hand-crafted solid oak wood, having a simple stepped cornice top, over two full length cabinet doors, opening to reveal various shelving options that provide very generous amounts of storage, flanked by recessed paneled sides, all rising on a wooden molding plinth base. Beautifully hand painted, most likely presented as a wedding gift, featuring folk art paint decorated polychrome floral, bird, and wedding motifs on blue ground, faux apothecary taste, dated 1988. Dimensions: (approx) 73" tall, 38" wide, 14.5" deep Uses: A wonderful example of functional art, the extremely versatile European cabinet reminiscent of Swedish Country, Scandinavian farmhouse, sophisticated provincial shabby chic, and rustic industrial style. As warm and attractive as it is useful, having the ideal size and proportions for a variety of different uses, including as a bedroom armoire or chest of drawers commode, old fashioned linen press, kitchen cupboard or pie safe pantry, living room bookcase, media console, dining room buffet hutch, office file cabinet, and just about anywhere else lots of usable storage is needed, elegant warmth, and a splash of light, airy color is desired. Condition: The cabinet is in great shape overall, especially considering its age of over 100 years old. It is strong and sturdy, later polychromed finish, enhanced with lightly distressed patina, with rich antique character and rustic charm throughout.
