Amazing and all handcrafted antique wooden cabinet with bronze handles. The greatest challenge in our business is to keep finding truly unique, interesting, meaningful, decorative, aesthetically pleasing and preferably practical pieces that clients across the globe will want to own and enjoy. This amazing and early 20th century Scandinavian cabinet ticks all the above mentioned boxes. We have never seen anything like this heraldic Viking cabinet with its incredibly deep carvings above the doors and also with the finest detailed carvings around the edges. At the centre of the museum quality AND condition carvings in the roof is the Viking ship with either a rising or an undergoing sun at the back of the bow. Because of the abundance of fruitful symbols surrounding the Viking ship, we think that this cabinet is also about the afterlife and the special heaven 'Walhalla' that was believed to be waiting for all Vikings who honorably lost their lives on earth in combat. Giving a cabinet like this ordinary handles was not an option, which is why the maker(s) decided to create cast bronze, ancient dolphin handles. They are both beautiful and practical and they too have the perfect patina. This large three-piece cabinet (roof, middle section bottom w. drawer) is made of a woodtype that we had never seen before and the color and grain of this stained birch wood are second to none. It all adds up to the grandeur and splendor of this one of a kind and practical antique cabinet. Mind you, the large drawer still slides perfectly and just like the door on the right it comes with a perfect working lock and key. The doors can be taken out (for easier safer shipping) and the thick and heavy shelves are adjustable in height. What is also remarkable, is that you don't need a single screw to put this large and heavy quality cabinet together. Finally, this cabinet can be used for all kinds of purposes. It was probably made as a wardrobe and it is still perfect for that purpose, but it could also be a large drinks cabinet, a china cabinet or simply for storing all kinds of items that you may or may not use everyday. Where on earth would you be able to find anyone still capable of creating such a perfect work of art? Who would still take on the challenge of creating such a majestic and meaningful piece of furniture? Probably no one, because it takes very special skills and it would take several months of labor and costly techniques and materials.
