About the Item

c. 1910s-1920s; The Shaw-Walker Co. - Muskegon, Michigan Nine-section oak catalog cabinet built in the classic modular format pioneered by Shaw-Walker-one of the Midwest's most influential early office-equipment manufacturers. This towering assembly combines multiple functional drawer types into a single, purpose-built archival unit: tall catalog compartments with metal pull-out frames, wide flat document drawers with center dividers, and deep storage drawers at the base. Matching oak panels and brass index holders unify the entire stack, giving it the crisp, rhythmic frontage characteristic of Golden Age office cabinetry. Shaw-Walker, founded in 1899, became a cornerstone of American filing and office systems, known for their modular steel and oak casework that helped standardize early 20th-century recordkeeping in businesses, banks, libraries, and government offices. Light wear consistent with age including scattered surface marks, minor edge wear to drawer faces, and expected handling wear to pulls and brass label frames. Overall solid, clean, and functional with smooth-operating drawers throughout. 42" W x 17" D x 82" H overall Wide document drawers: 18.5" W x 14.5" D x 1" H Tall catalog drawers: 4.5" W x 13.5" D x 11" H Large base drawers: 18.75" W x 15" D x 5" H MM - 18067 - 112425
