About the Item

An extraordinary antique pine bridal cabinet dating from 1845. This cabinet is simply designed but beautifully painted in a reddish-brown color with floral decorations in the panels. The top panels also bear the wedding date of the previous owner. Considering its age, this example is still in good condition, though there are naturally some minor signs of wear. These include sporadic old woodworm marks, which have of course been checked and treated, and the paint is somewhat worn in places. All in all, a very characteristic piece. The cabinet's interior is still original, with a drawer, shelves, coat hooks, and a rod. A secret storage compartment is also hidden behind the drawer. The cabinet still has its original working lock and key. It was customary in the past to give bridal furniture like this to the couple at a wedding. These pieces were later placed in a state room on the farm, rarely used for distinguished guests or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history. This specimen comes from South Germany (Oberpfalz).
