About the Item

This two-door cabinet features a central carved lesena panel with stylized floral and avian motifs in polychrome relief. The cabinet is painted ivory with yellow highlights along the moldings. Inside is one adjustable shelf. The inside of the doors is painted red. The cabinet stands on rounded bun feet. The carved motif draws from exotic influences, emphasizing a fusion of folkloric and stylized naturalism. This piece likely originated from a regional workshop influenced by the Werkbund movement and exemplifies the combination of historic furniture construction and confectionery shop décor of the 1920s. The bun feet and stepped cornice subtly allude to earlier historicist forms. However, the composition is clearly rooted in the lighthearted elegance and commercial optimism of the late Weimar era. The cabinet was originally intended as a practical storage piece, possibly for a parlor or boutique. Today, it evokes a world of visual storytelling, material imagination, and cross-cultural projection characteristic of the decorative arts between the wars.
