About the Item
c. 1920s-1930s; (likely) Berkey
Gay Furniture Co. - Grand Rapids, MI
Tall display cabinet crafted in rich mahogany and walnut veneer, featuring an arched bonnet top and intricate carved fretwork overlaying a single glass door. The upper section includes two removable wooden shelves suitable for china or collectibles, while the lower cabinet provides concealed storage behind carved paneled doors with geometric and floral detailing. The entire piece rests on turned and fluted legs connected by a carved stretcher base, embodying Berkey
Gay's refined craftsmanship and balance between ornamental and structural design.
Originally produced by Berkey
Gay Furniture Co., a premier Grand Rapids manufacturer established in the 19th century and celebrated for their exceptional quality and fine reproductions of classical European furniture styles, this cabinet reflects the firm's transition into the Art Deco period with its bold veneering and formal symmetry.
Shows minor finish wear including light scratches to interior shelving, missing quarter-round glass trim (door remains functional), one missing lower pull, and right-side foot damage. The glass latch has been removed to allow easy door closure but can be reinstalled. Recently cleaned and stable for display or use.
