Large Scale Union National Chinoiserie Breakfront China Cabinet Bookcase. Hand-painted and signed by artist. Union National was a prestigious high-end furniture company in Jamestown, NY, renowned for meticulous craftmanship.
This piece beautifully marries function and artistry. The upper portion features four beveled glass doors with double plate rails inside for displaying fine china or collectibles. Each door is framed by hand-painted chinoiserie motifs depicting serene landscapes and floral elements in soft, elegant tones. The lower section included three drawers with solid brass pulls, one of which opens to reveal a drop-down black leather writing surface with cubbyholes, converting this cabinet into a functional secretary. Below the drawers are four paneled doors with additional Chinoiserie scenes, opening to spacious storage compartments. Lower doors include paintings of Chinese characters, landscapes, and floral and fauna.
This American-made showpiece would be ideal as a china cabinet, a bookcase, or a multifunctional showpiece in grand interiors.
