About the Item
This versatile Collector, a double-sided cabinet made of pear wood, is the culmination of SoShiro’s and Alexandre Arrechea’s Layers collection collaboration. It is a transformative shelf unit inspired by one of Arrechea’s Corners series photographs, Blue Eye, and has been reimagined in mosaic as a drop-down shelf.
The eye explores Arrechea’s themes of surveillance in his artworks, particularly with the idea that the corners of buildings in Havana are considered witnesses to Cuba's history and changes. The Collector celebrates exceptional craftsmanship from the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli, the master mosaic school in Italy, as well as beauty in design with its many adaptable functions. With six shelves and multiple cubby spaces, plus a drop-down shelf, this cabinet makes the perfect bar, organizer, or partition divider cabinet.

Alexandre Arrechea
Alexandre Arrechea (b. 1970, Trinidad, Cuba) Alexandre Arrechea is a Cuban contemporary artist known for his innovative approach to sculpture, installation, and urban interventions. Born in Trinidad, Cuba, in 1970, Arrechea explores themes such as urban landscapes, social memory, and human behavior, often blending architectural elements with narrative forms. He studied Fine Arts in Havana and gained international recognition for his site-specific works and sculptures that reflect the complexities of contemporary life. His work has been exhibited in major museums and galleries worldwide, including Europe, North America, and Latin America, and is part of important public and private collections. Arrechea’s pieces often merge conceptual depth with technical precision, making them highly sought after by collectors of contemporary art and sculpture.
