About the Item

Antique bridal cabinet dating from around 1725-1750 in Franconia, southern Germany. Its heavy, weathered character and original paintings give it a stunning appearance. Both the design of the cabinet and the painting are simple and primitive, yet authentic and a typical example of regional folk art. The cabinet is decorated with flowers and acanthus leaves. The old, hand-forged hardware is equally decorative. The cabinet has been completely inspected and professionally restored, with an eye for originality and character. The construction is solid, the painting is worn but preserved, and the patina has been retained. The interior consists of coat hooks, one original shelf, and two later additions. The cabinet can be locked with the original, working lock. Old, sporadic woodworm traces have been checked and treated. Wedding cabinets like this are rarely found. The age, patina, and the way this cabinet is painted make it an exclusive piece of furniture. 178cm high, 100cm wide, 38cm deep.
