About the Item

A handsome eighteen-drawer hardwood apothecary-style cabinet elevated on an unusually elaborate cast brass stand. The chest is built in warm finished wood with tight joinery, small turned pulls, and a gently overhung top. Each drawer is long and narrow-ideal for small parts storage-while the cabinet's rectilinear form contrasts strikingly with the stand's ornate foliate legs and stretcher system. The cast brass base, with its Rococo-leaning curves and crisp leafwork, gives the whole piece a sculptural lift, transforming an otherwise utilitarian chest into a hybrid of shop furniture and decorative display. Many small American workrooms and storefronts of the early 20th century produced compact multi-drawer cabinets for hardware, notions, and apothecary use, often pairing simple casework with more decorative aftermarket stands.
