About the Item

A spectacular and most important Italian mid 19th century Baroque st. ebonized Fruitwood, Marble, Semi Precious Stone, Giltwood and Ormolu cabinet. This exceptional Pietra Dura inlaid specimen cabinet is raised on rectangular mottled and tapered feet below the straight apron. The bottom section of the cabinet is comprised of two doors and a single top drawer, all adorned with stunning specimen marble inlays set within Gilt frames, with the doors opening to reveal a single shelf and displaying all original hardware. The top section is decorated in the same manner, with the two large scale doors being fitted with floral Pietra Dura designs. The top doors open to showcase the stunning architecturally designed interior, with a variety of hidden compartments, doors, and drawers. At the center is a single small scale door, which is flanked by arched niches to each side with classically dressed maidens and tapered columns with Corinthian capitals. At the top are handsome toupie shaped finials and open winged eagles. Palatially scaled with exceptional quality throughout.

Antique French ormolu, brass and marquetry ebonised wood sideboard French, c. 1870 Height 110cm, width 154cm, depth 49cm Manufactured in France around 1870, this sideboard is wonderfully decorated using a wide array of complex techniques. The piece is surmounted by a maroon marble top naturally decorated with white and grey veining. Underneath it is an ormolu bead and reel frieze. The two central doors are inset with stunning marquetry floral panels. Each one displays a floral composition, the two being symmetrical reflections of one another.
