About the Item

An elegant and unique French 18th century Louis XVI period patinated wood and faux painted marble cabinet. The two door bombee shaped commode à porte chest, which displays a special hidden compartment, is raised by fine topie shaped circular tapered fluted legs below the lovely mottled frieze centered by a finely carved floral reserve. At the center are two doors each decorated with recessed panels displaying richly carved rosettes at the corners and charming berried laurel and tied ribbon keyhole escutcheons. The doors open to reveal one shelf, a recessed mottled fillet at the inside of the door with all original hardware, and the concealed false bottom housing a unique and most creative secret compartment. Above a lovely dentil border is the original masterfully executed faux painted marble top with an elegant mottled border. All original patina throughout.
