About the Item
A spectacular and most impressive French 19th century Louis XVI st. Belle Epoque Period Ebony, Coromandel, Ormolu and Portoro marble cabinet. This exceptional Commode A Porte (commode with doors) is raised on four handsome square tapered legs with wrap around sabots and reeded Ormolu mounts. The straight apron above is elegantly decorated by two Ormolu bands leading to the cut side corners. The cut corners are richly and exquisitely decorated by unique Ormolu mounts of lion heads with tide front paws, while at the bottom are the rear paws tide in the same manner. The two front interlocking doors (to avoid any warping to the doors) are fitted by extremely decorative central Coromandel panels. The panels depict the daily life of the classical figures and landscapes with wonderful detail and rich patination, while to each side are additional panels decorated in the same manner. Each of these four Coromandel panels are set within Ormolu mottled frames with shell like corner mounts and acanthus leaves. Above lays its original and thick Portoro marble top with a mottled and bull nose edge.
