Louis Philippe Cabinet

Mahogany, gilded bronze and gray marble
39" H x 55" W x 23" D
This Neoclassical cabinet is an excellent example of the French Louis Philippe style, with an inset gray marble top, out-curved sides, engaged fluted columns and pilasters, and gilded bronze detailing. The cabinet interior is fitted with two adjustable shelves. Two keys open, respectively, the top drawer and the lower cabinet doors.
Louis Philippe I (1773 - 1850), nicknamed the Citizen King, was King of France from 1830 to 1848. The style of architecture and design under Louis Philippe was a more eclectic development of French neoclassicism, incorporating elements of other styles. It was the first decorative style imposed not by royalty but by the tastes of the growing French upper class.
