About the Item
This is an old Japanese cabinet from around the Meiji period. It is made primarily of cedar and pine.
It is lightweight and easy to handle for its size, and its row of horizontal bars is a distinctive feature. Despite its simple design, it has a striking presence. It also retains a rustic feel.
The sliding door is covered with rough soot, which acts as an accent and gives it a natural black color that cannot be achieved with paint.
It is also recommended as a sideboard for displaying vases and ceramics. The corners of the sliding door have chipped and worn over time, but this does not affect its usability. The internal shelves are fixed and cannot be removed.
It has been carefully used by hand for many years, and its appearance has changed over time. It is a work of art that harmonizes with natural changes. Simply placing it in an inorganic space can dramatically change the impression, and this cabinet embodies the Japanese concept of "wabi-sabi."
